The Career Planning Process
Exploration
Familiarize yourself with Georgetown’s main career platform, Handshake, where you can make coaching appointments, browse job and internship opportunities, connect with employers, and register for events. If you haven’t already, make an account and update your student profile.
Reflection
Spend time reflecting on your skills, experiences, and future goals. Self-assessments can be helpful tools for determining how your life factors may align with your career interests.
Research
Conduct research on relevant industries, job titles, and trends that align with your career goals. This may require you to narrow down on specific job boards that target your industries of interest and begin networking with field professionals.
Preparation
Revise your application material to be specific to your target roles. By the end of this phase, you’ll have multiple versions of your resume and different cover letters to pull from.
Execution
Apply to positions, regularly assess your progress, and stay organized. Keep track of your applications and take note of feedback using a job tracking tool. As you continue to actively apply, start your interview prep early.
